Paul Smith Women Autumn Winter Collection 2012

Paul Smith was managing his first boutique in Nottingham and with the encouragement of his girlfriend Pauline Denyer (now wife) and a small amount of savings, opened a tiny shop in 1970. Paul started to take evening classes for tailoring and with the help of Pauline (an RCA fashion graduate), Paul was able to create what he wanted. By 1976 Paul showed his first menswear collection in Paris under the Paul Smith label.Within 20 years of his introduction to fashion Paul Smith had established himself as the pre-eminent British designer. Paul Smith has the ability to anticipate, and even spark off trends not only fashion but in the wider context of popular culture. Paul Smith Menswear Summer Spring Collection 2012

 For Spring Summer 2012 the mainline collection has a minimal and classic aesthetic, drawing inspiration from traditional workwear but reinterpreted to create modern, elegant shapes.
The colour palette is inspired by a singular colour, navy blue, and is complimented by brief shades of terracotta, coral and various shades of grey. Prints are bright, bold and graphic.
The silhouette is sharp; workwear inspired box shaped jackets with neat shoulders are seen alongside short, slim workers’ smocks with extreme drop shoulders. The traditional interior detailing of work jackets has been brought to the exterior. Collars are either removed or stitched down and when combined with large patch pockets, create a distinctly utilitarian sensibility to the collection.
